Tetra Tech collaborated with the Government of Indonesia, utilities, and the private sector to drive climate-smart development and build resilient energy systems.

Indonesia has abundant solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal resources and is committed to a low-carbon energy future. In 2011 the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) selected Tetra Tech to implement the Indonesia Clean Energy Development (ICED) Project, which ran in two phases through 2020.

Benefits

  • Reduced 6.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions
  • Mobilized more than $1.6 billion in clean energy investments
  • Helped bring 450 megawatts of renewable energy projects online
  • Proposed, adopted, and/or implemented 75 clean energy laws, policies, or regulations
  • Trained staff at 34 institutions to mitigate climate change and manage clean energy projects

Through ICED, Tetra Tech assisted Indonesia’s national and provincial governments to attract investment in renewable energy projects and catalyze energy efficiency initiatives in pursuit of the country’s climate commitments. Tetra Tech’s energy and policy experts:

  • Prepared long-term energy plans and greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies
  • Helped attract investment in renewable energy through support to developers, lenders, and the national electricity utility
  • Developed strategies for improving community-level electricity access
  • Provided technical and economic input to Indonesia’s first national rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) regulation
  • Conducted energy efficiency and renewable energy technology demonstrations
  • Analyzed the impacts of solar PV and wind power on transmission and distribution networks

Throughout the project, Tetra Tech helped build the capacity of nearly 9,500 public and private sector professionals in GIS mapping, modeling, energy planning, and financing clean energy projects. Through Tetra Tech’s support, Indonesia is now on a better path to a clean and secure energy future by meeting its ambitious low-emissions and renewable energy goals.
