Tetra Tech is supporting Iarnród Éireann in the development of the new Navan Railway.
Minister Darragh O’Brien recently announced the launch of the first public consultation on the emerging preferred route for the project, which is set to deliver a rail connection between Navan and Dublin City Centre. The new 34-kilometre electrified route will extend the existing rail line from M3 Parkway, with new stations proposed at Dunshaughlin, Kilmessan, Navan Central, and terminating at Navan North.
The route will transform transport options for local communities between Navan and Dublin’s Connolly Station. It will enable trains to run every 15 minutes at peak, with journey time of approximately 60 minutes and capacity for up to 4,400 commuters each way per hour.
Tetra Tech partnered with Arcadis to provide multi-disciplinary consultancy on the project in late 2024 and have been undertaking the first phase of the programme. Our work includes scope and design development, as well as the detailed option selection process that has been followed to identify the Emerging Preferred Route that has now been published for public consultation. The launch of the public consultation marks a significant milestone in the development of the project.
The Navan Railway upgrades will enhance connectivity across communities, enable housing growth and economic development, deliver sustainable transport choices, and expand access to public services like education and healthcare. This project will also support key policies including the National Development Plan Review 2025, the Climate Action Plan 2025 and the All-Island Strategic Rail Review, and aligns with the Meath County Development Plan.
We are delighted to be supporting Iarnród Éireann on this important project, which represents a major step forward in delivering a modern, electrified rail connection for Navan and the wider Greater Dublin Area. The publication of the Emerging Preferred Route and launch of public consultation is a significant milestone, and we are proud to have worked alongside our partners to develop a solution that will improve connectivity, support sustainable growth, and create better access to opportunities and services for communities along the corridor.
