Exploring the Intersection of Water and Technology to Address Water Industry Challenges

A wave on the sea with a digital overlay

As specialists in both water and technology, our unique perspective brings together water expertise and ground-breaking data analysis techniques to provide new insights for our clients to help address the biggest challenges facing the water industry.

In April 2025, the water industry entered the latest regulatory period, AMP8. The challenges that we face as an industry are significant, specifically around combined sewer overflows (CSOs) and leakage. Not only that, but we’ll be seeing far more data coming into the sector than ever before, ranging from enterprise data management systems measuring discharges into rivers, as well as enhanced leakage data and ever-increasing numbers of household smart meters.

It’s going to be interesting to see how we push forward with these challenges into the near future. One thing is certain, we’ll need to have an understanding on how to use this data in different ways, and make sure that we use it to meet the challenges that we have as we go towards 2030.

Specialists in the water industry

Tetra Tech is an industry leader in asset management, wastewater analytics, and leakage—some of the areas that are going to be the biggest drivers of change within AMP8. The innovations that we’ve been working on for the last 30 years means that we’ve got that experience and expertise to be able to drive forward the changes that are needed. Our expertise brings together both water and digital solutions and is vital for interpreting the large amounts of data we have on hand. At Tetra Tech, we leverage a deep bench of global digital water expertise with decades of experience in the UK using digital solutions to support our clients to make better decisions more quickly.

Digital integrator: Where water and technology flow together

Our digital integrator concept combines traditional water expertise with technology. It applies robust understanding of data to leverage the most recent ground-breaking techniques for analysis, providing our clients with insights and sustainable solutions.

Software that solves real problems

Our solutions go beyond conventional approaches and are not simply off-the shelf packages. We utilise our experience and expertise in the water industry to develop bespoke, innovative tools that address the unique challenges faced by water professionals.

We provide professional data and software development services delivering custom, world-class solutions on a variety of technology platforms. By combining a broad range of technical and industry expertise with a commitment to client deliverables, we are a leader in software development for our UK water clients.

Water operational technology and cybersecurity

With the implementation of robust cybersecurity measures including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption protocols, the water industry can defend against unauthorised access, data breaches, and cyber-attacks. Regular audits, monitoring, and updates are essential to ensure the resilience of water systems. By prioritising cybersecurity, Tetra Tech helps our clients maintain the reliability and integrity of operational technologies, preventing disruptions and safeguarding the essential resource of water.
