Agroscience and Food Safety Analysis

Water irrigation on corn field against sky

Tetra Tech provides robust agroscience analysis services covering food and feed testing as well as whole product lifecycle analysis from farm to end user verification.

Tetra Tech delivers industry-leading agroscience analysis to support clients in developing safe, effective plant protection and biocide products. From initial formulation to environmental fate assessments, our services help clients meet complex regulatory requirements across the UK and Europe. We also provide testing services to ensure consumers distributors and importers of food and feed products comply with government regulations to ensure the goods are free or contaminants and residues.

We operate state-of-the-art laboratories that provide ISO/IEC 17025 and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) compliant testing, offering tailored support throughout the product development lifecycle. Our facilities operate in accordance with OECD and SANCO guidelines, ensuring data integrity and traceability. Our experienced scientists and technical staff provide clients with clear, accurate, and timely data—critical for submissions to national and international regulatory bodies.

Crop Residue Analysis

Our experts have extensive experience in crop residues analysis and testing, working across a range of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other organic compounds. Our services comply with OECD and SANCO guidelines, and are carried out in a GLP-compliant facility under MHRA.

Animal Bedding and Packaging

Tetra Tech provides a comprehensive suite of analysis for animal feeding materials, packing, and animal bedding including cardboard and woodchip with ISO17025 accreditation. We provide rapid analysis of a wide range of complex materials that can come into direct contact with animals thus providing quality assurance to the manufacturers that their product will be safe for retail.

Typical Tests include:

  • Aflatoxins B1,B2,G1,G2.
  • Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
  • Anions and cations
  • Heavy Metals
  • Yeasts, moulds and microbes
  • Pesticides
  • Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)

Food Contaminants

Tetra Tech provides trusted food safety analysis services to support producers, processors, retailers, and regulators. Our laboratories offer accredited testing across a wide range of contaminants, including allergens, pathogens, and chemical residues.

  • Pesticide and veterinary drug residues
  • Heavy metals such as lead and mercury
  • Mycotoxins
  • Acrylamide
  • Glyphosate and AMPA
  • Quaternary ammonium Compounds
  • Bisphenol A

Glyphosate

Tetra Tech has developed a sophisticated analytical technique that can detect glyphosate in pulses, grains, cereals, tea, flour, baked goods and other difficult matrices down to 10µg/kg . These methods are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and in addition to glyphosate, the methods also detect AMPA, which is the principal metabolite of glyphosate in both plants and the environment.

Under European Commission Regulations (Reg EU No. 239/2013) strict limits are imposed on maximum residue levels (MRLs) of glyphosate in food and feed. We take part in regular external performance testing for Glyphosate through schemes such as FAPAS, BIPEA & Pulse Canada and our robust validation includes the analysis of external certified reference materials.

Disinfectants in Food

Tetra Tech provides ISO IEC 17025 accredited analysis of the following QACs down to 0.01mg/Kg in vegetables, fresh and dried fruits, honey, nuts, dry legumes, forage crops, seeds, cereals, grains, and similar matrices.

BAC is a mixture of alkylbenzyldimethyl ammonium chlorides of various even-numbered alkyl chain lengths (C8-C18). The greatest biocide activity is associated with the C12-C14 derivatives, which are the main components of the mixture.

DDAC is a mixture of alkyl-quaternary ammonium salts with typical alkyl chain lengths of C8, C10 and C12. C10 is the main component and makes more than 90 % of the mixture. In most cases the term DDAC is thus used for the Didecyldimethyl ammonium chloride congener.

  • Benzyldimethyldecyl ammonium chloride (BAC10)
  • Benzyldimethyldodecyl ammonium chloride (BAC12)
  • Benzyldimethyl-tetradecyl ammonium chloride (BAC14)
  • Benzyldimethylhexadecyl ammonium chloride (BAC16)
  • Didecyldimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC)
