Creating a Thriving New Community in Fareham, Nottingham

Aerial, illustrated plan of the Fairham development

Tetra Tech is delivering principal-designer and health and safety services to enable a thriving new community of 3,000 homes and mixed-use in Fairham, Nottingham.

Fairham will create a thriving new community and a well-planned, safe neighbourhood with a vibrant mix of residential and commercial sites.

The scheme will deliver 3,000 new homes and assist Rushcliffe Borough Council in meeting its new homes target of 13,500 dwellings by 2030. It will bring a new school, community centre, health centre, sports pitches, community parks and woodland. The neighbourhood centre will feature retail and leisure facilities.

Fairham will help provide new employment opportunities across the region. It will be a place where individuals, families, businesses and organisations can flourish, built on the principles of sustainability and community

Challenge

Due to the magnitude of the development at 606 acres and the construction of the mixed-use concept, the project required careful consideration. The development involves the transformation of a greenfield site, which requires major infrastructure works to develop the new town.

Coordinating the many different parties involved, including designers, architects, Fairham forum members, legal teams, utility providers, commercial clients, construction contractors, engineers, environmental bodies, government bodies, infrastructure services, and housebuilders also presented a challenge.

Solution

We were the central point of contact for principal designer and health and safety (H&S) advice.

We attended the project meetings and chaired the H&S consortium meetings with the project team, who managed the public right of way through the middle of the site, site security for a large development and site-wide estate management matters. The project team also managed communications between contractors and major consideration of the public and health and safety design queries.

Our team delivered the initial Construction Design and Management (CDM) site survey and provided pre-construction information while reviewing construction phase plans for the infrastructure works.

We conducted site audits on principal contractors and safety tours of the wider site and maintained and updated the H&S logbook and review H&S file information.

We also assisted with The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) safety reviews for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
