The New School University Center, New York

Tetra Tech’s High Performance Buildings Group provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection services for a 16-story project that includes an academic and retail space and sits below an 11-story dormitory, targeting LEED Gold.

The academic space accommodates specialized design studios, interdisciplinary classrooms, student centers, faculty offices, laboratories, dining facilities, student gathering spaces, a library, and finally, an auditorium. The project was designed using Revit. Green building features include an energy-efficient, 265 kilowatt (kW) cogeneration plant that uses natural gas to generate electricity and recover thermal energy for domestic hot water on site, an ice-storage system that lowers the air conditioning system's peak cooling requirement during summer days, state-of-the-art lighting featuring efficient LED lights, and daylight harvesting to use natural light indoors.
