Allegiance Bank selected Tetra Tech to provide initial project review and funds control and inspection services for the ground-up construction of Springhill Suites Houston I-45 North in Texas. The initial project review included comprehensive review of contract documents and drawings, and the inspections services were completed over the course of 16 site visits. Our team examined potential issues in the budget or scope that would affect the project prior to commencement.

The hotel includes 104 rooms, meeting space, a public area for serving a continental breakfast, and parking to accommodate hotel guests.

The project started construction in what is considered the rainy season in the Houston area. Heavy clay soils, which did not absorb water and created standing pools on at ground level, posed a challenge for site work. To accommodate the construction and in particular the foundation and footprint of the hotel, a temporary rainwater containment pond was constructed and the site was graded and sloped to allow the site to drain so construction could progress.

The local jurisdiction required that fine particles be removed from the accumulated rainwater before discharge. A filtration and holding tank system was devised so that water from the containment pond could be pumped into the tank and filtered through fabric prior to discharge into the stormwater system.

Tetra Tech’s pre-construction review and monthly funds control and site inspection helped the project to be completed on time and within budget with the cooperation of all parties.
