Net Zero Office Space for California State Agencies
Tetra Tech’s High Performance Buildings Group is currently providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy, and lighting services for a new and modern office building in Sacramento for the State of California Department of General Services.
Facts
- Size: 372,000 square feet
- Construction Cost: $238 million
- Client/Owner: State of California, Department of General Services
- Architect: ZGF/Lionakisv
- Contractor: Rudolph & Sletten
- Completion Date: 2021
The O Street property will be a sustainable building that meets LEED Platinum and Net Zero Energy standards. The 12-story, 372,000-square-foot office building will house staff from the state’s Department of Developmental Services, Department of State Hospitals, and Health and Human Services Agency.
The design will incorporate significant energy efficiency and water efficiency elements such as underfloor air distribution, radiant chilled ceilings, and service hot-water heat recovery. When complete, it will use 60 percent less water than similarly sized office buildings.
The building will operate using 100 percent solar energy. This is part of a first-of-its-kind agreement with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District in which California’s Sacramento portfolio will move toward solar power.
