Fortescue Metals Group operates the Solomon, Christmas Creek, and Cloudbreak operations north of Fortescue Marsh in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Fortescue Metals Group selected Tetra Tech to provide technical services related to the geochemistry of the sites in support of closure activities. The closure plan is a statutory requirement related to the mining license.

Tetra Tech is responsible for the geochemical analysis of waste rock, ore stockpiles, tailings, and water at the Fortescue Metals Group operating sites and projects. Tetra Tech has a two-year contract to manage the life-of-mine geochemistry programs.

In close consultation with Fortescue Metals Group, our team had completed a comprehensive review of all geochemistry work completed on-site in 2013. The findings of that report were used to scope and develop the current project.

Key project features include:

  • Completion of regulatory documents according to Ministerial Conditions and Mine Closure Objectives
  • Sample selection, collection, and analysis
  • Partnership with Chem Centre laboratory to complete test work program
  • Quarterly and annual reporting of results
