Bruce Power Dryer Performance Assessment
The Bruce Nuclear Generating Station is a Canadian nuclear power station on the eastern shore of Lake Huron. Tetra Tech conducted a performance assessment for the Bruce-A fuelling machine heavy water vault vapor recovery dryers. These dryers play a vital role in reducing deuterium oxide losses and managing tritium emissions to minimize hazards to workers and the environment.
The dryer performance evaluation identifies potential problems and solutions and provides a template for assessing other similar dryers at the Bruce-A and Bruce-B sites. Tetra Tech used computer modeling to help assess the adequacy of the dryers.
Tetra Tech’s assessment identified several opportunities for improvement, including recommendations for a new data logging protocol, improved desiccant and air damper systems, and installing a new confinement room dryer.
