For more than 50 years, Tetra Tech has been a leader in ocean engineering and research, designing remote-controlled vehicles (ROVs) for underwater inspections and data collection. Tetra Tech is advancing that legacy today in Brazil. PetroRio, an independent oil and gas producer, selected Tetra Tech to collect data on the health of fish and benthic fauna under offshore oil and gas platforms off the coast of Brazil.

Faced with strong ocean currents at great underwater depths, our team was challenged to find an innovative solution to deliver quality data, within budget and on time. Our team used small ROVs clipped to the anchor line at a depth of more than 100 meters to capture footage of fish and benthic fauna. By using small ROVs, our technicians were able to mobilize more quickly, minimizing time at sea. Tetra Tech also developed a Web GIS interface to provide the client with immediate access to project videos, photos, and the accompanying data.

This innovative solution allowed us to reduce mobilization time at sea and provide our client with significant cost savings.
