Tetra Tech delivers innovative solutions to public and private clients around the world to expand internet infrastructure, increase access to the internet for underserved markets, and maximize the potential economic and social benefits of improved information and communications technology.
Nearly 4 billion people—60 percent of the world— currently lack internet access. Without internet access, they are missing out on health, education, and employment information, which leaves them at risk of falling even further behind. Working with our clients, Tetra Tech is helping bridge the internet access gap. Tetra Tech provides clients with support to provide internet access to underserved communities worldwide. Our teams:
-
Develop and design projects to increase internet access and, when appropriate, use a cost-saving, build-once approach
-
Reform information and communications technology policy
-
Facilitate transactions between project developers, financiers, and governments
-
Structure and implement successful public-private partnerships
-
Provide financial advisory services including feasibility studies, due diligence, capital raising support, bidding, and tendering support
-
Implement projects that use internet access to achieve development goals
-
Integrate energy generation and distribution into internet projects
Tetra Tech’s experience includes developing a public-private partnership (PPP) between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Microsoft, and the Government of the Philippines Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to bring internet access to fishing communities. Tetra Tech helped bring reliable, high-speed wireless internet access to fisherfolk, schools, and businesses using Super Wi-Fi—employing unused television frequencies to provide internet access over broad areas. When these communities were hit by a typhoon and earthquake in 2013, Super Wi-Fi was instrumental in communications and recovery efforts.
Tetra Tech is helping the Government of Kenya create a 5,000-acre technopolis, supporting the country as it grows into a globally competitive, prosperous nation. As the lead engineering firm for the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA), Tetra Tech is providing program management, architecture-engineering services, and capacity building to help the technopolis become a green, sustainable, smart, vibrant, and inclusive African technology city.
We develop cost-effective solutions for power data centers, improve communication centers’ energy efficiency, and increase renewable energy use. Tetra Tech is currently working on numerous projects that use renewable energy for internet access in remote areas of developing countries.
According to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the digital gender gap is widening, resulting in 250 million fewer women online than men. Tetra Tech’s approach integrates gender, youth, and vulnerable populations in our activities to develop successful projects. Our team complements this approach with cutting-edge information and communication technology services, along with rigorous monitoring and evaluation for information-based decision making and adaptive management.
