Gender and Social Inclusion

Tetra Tech works closely with its partners to integrate gender and social inclusion strategies into its international development projects to support improved economic opportunities and service access for women and other marginalized communities.

While women’s lives have improved in recent decades, women in many parts of the world remain severely underprivileged, often lacking educational and economic opportunities, access to fair justice, and opportunities to participate in political life. Other groups also are frequently marginalized due to factors including ethnicity, disabilities, and social status. Considering the circumstances and needs of these groups in development projects is essential to sustainable development outcomes.

Using context-specific approaches, we manage projects that increase access to quality security services, fair justice, economic opportunities, and healthcare for girls, women, and marginalized groups. Our teams help improve the delivery of government services to all members of society and work to give marginalized groups a greater say in decisions that affect them.

Tetra Tech’s in-house team of Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) specialists support changes to government policies, laws, and practices and raise public awareness about issues affecting women and socially excluded groups. We work with clients to integrate gender equality, disability, and social inclusion into all programs. We assist governments and project teams to develop, implement, and monitor GEDSI policies and strategies, develop training for and support local gender and disability advisers, provide quality assurance on program reports and annual plans, work with monitoring and evaluation specialists to ensure GEDSI is included in frameworks, undertake research and analysis in support of program delivery, and undertake program reviews.

Our teams specialize in developing innovative solutions to effectively address GEDSI issues in priority areas with expertise in:

  • Integrating gender analysis and empowerment in democracy and governance, basic education, global health, economic growth, and results-based management
  • Improving women’s and marginalized groups’ access to justice and economic opportunities as well as overall participation in dialogue around issues affecting them
  • Reducing family and sexual violence against women by supporting changes to policies, practices, and attitudes of government and the public
  • Working with youth to provide opportunities for dialogue on critical issues, including education, governance, and agriculture and food security
  • Improving health access and quality of health services for women, children, and disabled people
  • Working to improve infrastructure and service delivery to marginalized communities, whether the marginalization is based on economics, religion, gender, ethnicity, or disability
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of gender and social inclusion programs, including men’s behavior change and male advocacy programs

At Tetra Tech, we recognize that effective development programming that achieves long-lasting outcomes must integrate the needs of women, youth, and other vulnerable or disadvantaged groups.
