Simulated Sensitivity of Urban Green Infrastructure Practices to Climate Change
In this article, Tetra Tech’s Saumya Sarkar and Jonathan Butcher and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Thomas Johnson and Christopher Clark examine the effects of climate change on green infrastructure (GI) practices. The authors examined 36 urban archetypes that represent major urban developmental patterns throughout the United States for how temperature, precipitation, and other changes can affect existing water infrastructure as well as proposed GI with a focus on stormwater quantity and quality.
This study found that GI provides advantages for a range of potential future climate conditions. With greater flexibility, GI has the potential to adapt quickly and effectively to a changing global climate and can be a useful component of resilient design in diverse urban settings.
