In this presentation, Deepak Kumar, Joseph Yonan, and Tony Ruban discuss the results of a pile load test conducted in northwest Calgary, Alberta. Much of northwest Calgary has lacustrine soils with varying thickness overlaying glacial till, posing foundation challenges.

The test was performed on a bored cast-in-place belled pile that was drilled through the lacustrine soils and based in glacial till using the Osterberg Cell (O-Cell) method. The test was conducted to find accurate design parameters, and thus provide the cost estimate and foundation performance during the foundation design for the Trades and Technology Complex development of Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
