Tetra Tech Helps Reduce Kazakhstan’s Environmental Footprint
Tetra Tech is supporting the Kazakhstan government in implementing the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Kazakhstan Climate Change Mitigation Program. The program will significantly lessen Kazakhstan’s environmental footprint by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Kazakhstan’s GHG emissions trading program requires high-emitting businesses to reduce their emissions every year.
Tetra Tech is building the government’s capacity to implement and enforce the policies and measures for GHG reduction. Because many companies do not have the tools or knowledge on how to reduce their emissions, the program will provide training for regulated entities and other carbon market participants.
In 2013 and 2014, 100 specialists from 62 companies were trained during six workshops in Astana and Almaty. These specialists included representatives of some of Kazakhstan’s largest GHG emitters. This program is supporting Kazakhstan’s ability to create sustainable and climate-resistant economic growth.
