The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) desalination plant—one of the largest in Texas—is halfway through construction. KSAT.com highlighted this exciting progress with an article and a site visit.

SAWS selected Tetra Tech, as part of a multidisciplinary team, to design this plant to diversify the San Antonio water supply. The project incorporates multiple brackish wells, reverse osmosis treatment, three deep injection wells for disposing concentrate, 11 miles of pipeline, and associated pump stations. The plant will accommodate educational opportunities for local university students and the public.

The completed plant will deliver 12 million gallons per day (mgd) of water to its customers when it opens in 2016, increasing to 30 mgd by 2025.
