Improving the Community from Fairfax to the Far-flung Corners of the United States
Volunteerism and outreach build stronger, more vibrant communities. A small team of Tetra Tech employees led our Fairfax, Virginia, office in ongoing relief and support efforts during Fiscal Year 13.
“Our staff is committed to volunteerism and helping others” says George Townsend, Fairfax operations manager. “Through the leadership and dedication of Diana Hodge, Michelle Cannella, and Hope Herron, we have participated in many worthy causes.”
Starting Close to Home
Employees in the Fairfax office collected backpacks for children whose families are escaping abusive situations. They delivered 50 backpacks to help children at the local Katherine Hanley Shelter as their families navigated difficult times. The office has supported the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program for more than 20 years, delivering hundreds of toys for children in need.
They also helped improve the environment in the Washington, D.C., area by sponsoring a 2013 Earth Day clean up at Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. Employees from nearby Tetra Tech offices joined them for stream clean-up, invasive species removal, and landscaping efforts..
Expanding Their Reach
When devastating tornadoes hit Oklahoma in 2012, the Fairfax office helped children whose schools—and in many cases homes—had been destroyed. They sent 30 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to Moore Elementary School in Moore, Oklahoma.
When Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on New York and New Jersey, employees quickly mobilized to provide much-needed basic supplies. Countless bags were filled with blankets; diapers and baby wipes; and men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, shoes and socks, hats and scarves, and coats and gloves.
Continuing Their Efforts
Fairfax employees started Fiscal Year 2014 by supporting Tetra Tech’s Philippines relief efforts. In November and December, the team’s efforts came full circle as they again undertook their annual Toys for Tots drive. More efforts are planned in the coming year.
We thank the employees of our Fairfax, Virginia office, and the dedicated team that leads them in these efforts.
