Afghan National Army Base Design |

As lead designer on a design/build team, Tetra Tech provided master planning services, overall design management, and full A/E services for four Regional Brigade Facilities for the Afghan National Army (ANA) in Afghanistan. Working under multiple programs for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Transatlantic Programs Center, the design/build team was the first contractor in Afghanistan to assist USACE with its program to help rebuild the ANA.
Tetra Tech provided full A/E services at four different locations in Afghanistan. These included the ANA First Brigade Facilities at Pol-e-Charkhi and the expansion of the brigade facilities at Darualaman, both located in the Kabul area. In addition, Tetra Tech provided master planning and full A/E services for two new ANA bases at Mazer-e-Sharif and Gardez. These two new ANA bases, each to support 6,000 soldiers, were located in remote and hostile locations in Afghanistan and began in completely undeveloped areas of the country. Each new base included more than 100 buildings including barracks, administrative facilities, headquarters buildings, dining facilities, morale and welfare facilities, maintenance facilities, warehousing, and force protection facilities.
In addition, each base included a complete infrastructure of water wells, water storage and distribution, wastewater collection, pumping and treatment, electrical power generation (5 megawatt capacity), bulk fuel storage, an electrical distribution system, and a communications system. The design also included complete site development including roads, grading, and drainage for more than 300 acres of property.
