Loxahatchee Mitigation Bank

Loxahatchee Mitigation Bank

Tetra Tech has entered into a public-private contractual agreement to help create the Loxahatchee Mitigation Bank located in Palm Beach County, Florida. The wetlands mitigation bank is a 1,256-acre parcel located adjacent to the ecologically significant Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. The project will ultimately result in the restoration of degraded wetlands within the historic limits of the Florida Everglades.

The wetlands mitigation bank is a unique public/private contractual agreement between Tetra Tech and a local governmental agency, the South Florida Water Management District.

Tetra Tech is responsible for the design, permitting, construction, operation, short-term maintenance, and marketing and sales of mitigation credits, as well as for providing funding for the long-term maintenance associated with the project.

Highlights:

  • Reduced initial cost estimates by $2 million during design through value engineering and constructability reviews
  • Unique berm designed with a narrow footprint to maximize the functional value “lift” of the bank
  • Emergency discharge structures designed as fusible earthen plugs to activate during the 100-year storm event for controlled release of excess water
