King County Transit Base Expansion |
Seattle, Washington

King County Metro (Metro) currently dispatches nearly 1,300 buses each weekday from seven bus bases. Transit bus service has rapidly expanded in response to increased regional service demand. To meet the increased demand, Metro’s Transit Operating Facilities Plan identifies the need for additional base capacity in the vicinity of Metro’s current Atlantic and Central bus base complex. The proposed project is part of a long-range strategic plan to expand bus base capacity in the east, central, and south areas of King County, servicing 2,134 square miles and more than 1.8 million people.
Additional capacity to maintain and operate buses is key to the ability of King County to provide quality transit services. These transit services are an important part of the region’s transportation system and support the regional economy and planned growth. The Atlantic and Central bases are important to Metro’s transit service capacity because of their central location and because nearly half of Metro's fleet is to be dispatched from these joint bases.
To meet this regional transit service demand, Tetra Tech is in the fifth year of an eight-year, $100 million transit base expansion program. During the course of that time, Tetra Tech has designed more than a dozen buildings and project components, several of which have received LEED ® certification, including LEED-NC Gold.
