Interview Tips

Tetra Tech encourages students to apply for entry-level jobs. Here are some tips from our team on how to make a good impression.

 

  • Before the Interview
  • Do your homework. Be sure to read information on the company website, articles and news releases, financial information, etc.
  • Go online and see what you can learn about the people you will be meeting.
  • Be familiar with the job description and know what the position requires.
  • Always prepare a list of questions to ask the interviewer. You will want to know about roles, responsibilities, expectations, and career path opportunities.
  • Be sure to take several copies of your resume to the interview.
  • Be sure to know the exact location of the interview and the time it takes to get there.


The Interview

  • Create a positive first impression.
    • Smile.
    • Maintain eye contact with the interviewer.
    • Be a good listener as well as a good talker.
    • Wear business attire unless advised otherwise.
    • Don’t be late. Ideally try to arrive 30 minutes early.
  • Know your strengths and weaknesses. Be prepared to talk about accomplishments that speak to your strengths, as well as accomplishments that demonstrate how you have overcome weaknesses.
  • Keep your answers to one to two minutes.
  • Stress what you can do for the company rather than what the company can do for you.
  • Be prepared for a question about your salary requirements.
  • Collect contact information from each interviewer.


After the Interview

  • Be sure to send a thank you via email or letter to all those with whom you interviewed reiterating why you are a good fit for the position. If you met with multiple people, be sure to personalize your letters to each individual. Email the hiring manager or recruiter for a status update if you do not receive notification after one to two weeks.
