Ammunition Plant Decontamination

Ammunition Plant Decontamination

For the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Tetra Tech is performing environmental restoration and facility decontamination and demolition under this Guaranteed Fixed-Price Remediation (GFPR) project. The scope of work for environmental restoration includes excavation, treatment, and disposal of soils contaminated by explosives and metals, achieving remedy-in-place for contaminated groundwater, and management of the on-site disposal area.

In April 2007, the soil excavation portion of the remedial action was completed more than one year ahead of the original U.S. Army schedule.

Ultimately, Tetra Tech is responsible for closure of the treatment cell and associated landfill. The decontamination and demolition scope includes site assessments, permitting, hazardous materials removal, demolition, and site restoration for six former load lines.
