Tetra Tech performed a design-grade, high-detail mobile mapping collection of the 1-mile-long Surface Road in Island County, Washington, using LiDAR and imaging.

Rather than using a traditional survey crew, Tetra Tech deployed a mobile mapping crew to collect data in two passes at the posted roadway speeds. All field data collection was accomplished successfully as scheduled, within one full day, including travel to the site. We also successfully captured orthoimagery in unison with LiDAR data to aid in data extraction. Our team began processing the mobile mapping data the next day.

Our experienced LiDAR technicians overcame challenges including incredibly dense vegetation on Surface Road and a loss of GPS reception (a crucial component of mobile mapping) for 120 seconds. They expertly accommodated these issues by placing additional ground control in affected areas and brought the data within expected tolerances to achieve their goal.
