For Recurrent Energy, Tetra Tech provided project management services for one of the United States’ largest municipal solar projects, the five-megawatt Sunset Reservoir Solar Project in San Francisco, California.

The project sits atop the city’s largest reservoir in a space equivalent to approximately 12 football fields. With 24,000 photovoltaic panels, the project triples the solar generation in San Francisco. According to Recurrent Energy, the project will reduce the city’s carbon emissions by more than 100,000 metric tons.

The solar plant is operated under a Power Purchase agreement with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, with the General Hospital, San Francisco International Airport, Muni light rail, public schools, and streetlights using the generated electricity.

Tetra Tech’s project management services included:

  • Utility interconnection coordination
  • California Independent System Operator Synchronization
  • Management of the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor
  • Facility start-up operations to bring the project to commercial operation and meet the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s goals
