For more than 30 years, Tetra Tech has provided safe, innovative, and cost-effective solutions in the areas of nuclear materials management, safety basis, security, and transportation for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

Tetra Tech’s nuclear materials management services encompass lifecycle planning and execution, which include developing material management, disposition, and recycling plans. We also provide data collection, analysis, and management for required inventories to ensure accuracy for Nuclear Material Inventory Assessment (NMIA) item-level marking.

Tetra Tech personnel perform material characterization—establishing and verifying processing histories—and provide support for containerization, packaging, and transportation. We identify site-wide and DOE complex-wide consolidation, disposition, and recycling opportunities and coordinate multi-site projects. Tetra Tech has supported the complex-wide efforts of the DOE Nuclear Materials Management Team (NMMT) since the NMMT’s inception.

Tetra Tech has more than 20 years of experience developing, implementing, and maintaining safety basis documents for DOE and NNSA facilities to meet the requirements of 10 CFR 830 and site quality processes. Our personnel develop Documented Safety Analysis (DSA), Technical Safety Requirement (TSR), and Safety Analysis Report (SAR) documentation and support subsequent implementation to help manage risks at nuclear facilities. We also support the Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) process and prepare and review USQ Determinations. In addition, we perform detailed hazard, accident, and consequence analysis.

Our security services include nuclear security project and program planning, independent program assessments, physical security and information security implementation, and security training and mentoring. To address security issues and requirements, Tetra Tech personnel provide corrective action planning, tracking, and closure validation; options analysis for improvements; and facility planning.

In the areas of nuclear safeguards and material control and accountability (MC&A), we provide MC&A policy, program, and procedures implementation; independent assessment support; and MC&A training and mentoring.

Tetra Tech provides a wide range of support to facilitate the disposition or relocation of nuclear and other classified materials within the DOE and NNSA complex. Our team develops nuclear materials disposition project and program plans and innovative packaging and shipping plans and strategies. We make determinations and provide reviews for radioactive and hazardous material shipments and provide support for containerization and packaging. In addition, we prepare and provide technical reviews of Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARPs) and related documents, develop site Transportation Safety Documents (TSDs) and activity-specific TSDs, and implement transportation safety programs.
