Tetra Tech brings more than three decades of science-based environmental consulting and sustainable development experience to combat the challenges of climate change.

In the developing world, poor, rural communities are overwhelmingly dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods, rendering them the most vulnerable to the effects of increasing climate variability. Around the world, Tetra Tech works to mitigate climate risk to farmers, reduce agricultural emissions, and increase resilience to climate change.

Tetra Tech is the U.S. Agency for International Development’s leading partner in climate change adaptation and has 50 years of experience assisting governments, businesses, and communities to build climate-resilient livelihoods. We offer world-class expertise in climate-smart agricultural technologies and practices. We identify and promote locally-adapted, drought-resistant crop varieties; support sustainable intensification and water management practices; and help to diversify farming systems, including promoting integrated crop and livestock systems, to foster resilience to natural and manmade shocks.

Building on our institutional capabilities in developing farm services such as agricultural extension, Tetra Tech works to improve the availability and use of climate and weather data to enhance decision making in planting, harvesting, input application, and sales. This allows smallholders and downstream businesses to operate more effectively.

Tetra Tech’s farmer-level interventions are coupled with efforts to strengthen linkages to local and regional markets, improve dissemination of market information to increase transparency, and invest in critical infrastructure needed to expand cash markets for smallholders. We also support public sector partners to improve climate forecasting, disseminate information to the public, and link climate data with practical recommendations for farmers.

Our team facilitates community-led natural resource management for sustainable stewardship of local resources and to mitigate the risks of overproduction and overgrazing, deforestation, and depletion of water resources.
