In Jonquiere, Quebec (Canada), Tetra Tech subsidiary BPR is providing engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) services to Alcan for the development of a first-of-its kind pilot plant for spent pot lining. With a capacity of 80,000 tons per year, the new plant uses a low caustic leaching and liming process, a new hydrometallurgical technology developed by Alcan. The project also involves implementation of other new technologies at the pilot facility, including a new grinding circuit, new reactor processes, and a new evaporation/crystallization process. As part of this EPCM effort, BPR manages the scope and evaluates change requests, identifies project risks, provides value optimization services (identified more than CND $10 million in overall savings), works with regional suppliers, and implements procedures to help manage environment, health, and safety at the plant.
